Property filters

Narrow insights, lists and cohorts to the events and people you care about, with the operators each kind of property supports.

A property filter narrows any view to the events, people or sessions that match a condition, such as "browser equals Chrome" or "plan is set". The same filter control appears in insights, dashboards, Activity, the persons list, cohorts and recordings.

Add a filter

  1. Click the filter button, usually shown with a plus sign.
  2. Choose the property. Properties are grouped by where they come from: event properties, person properties, session properties, cohorts and more.
  3. Choose an operator and enter one or more values. Suggested values are taken from your recent data.

When you add several filters, choose whether all of them or any of them must match.

Operators

The operators offered depend on the property's type, which you can see and correct in Data management.

Tips

  • "Doesn't equal" also matches events where the property is not set. Add "is set" as well if you only want events that have the property.
  • Choose the right kind of property. A person property reflects what you know about the person; an event property reflects the moment of the event.
  • Numbers sent as text compare as text. If "greater than" is missing for a number, check the property's type in Data management.
  • Filter out internal and test users in Settings → Project → Customization defines a set of filters you can apply to any insight with one switch.
