Event mapping
Choose which dataLayer events Hive Setup forwards to My Journey Analytics, and give them clearer names.
Your site may already push useful events to the dataLayer, such as add_to_cart or generate_lead. Event mapping is where you choose which of them reach My Journey Analytics, and what they are called when they arrive. Hive Setup uses this list when it builds the forwarding tag in your container.
Open the site under Tools → Hive and select the Events mapping tab. You can also select Choose which events to forward under dataLayer events in a report.
Where the list comes from
The list comes from the latest check of the site. Run Hive Check first; until then the tab says "Run Hive Check first. We list the events we see on your pages."
Events the tag manager pushes itself, whose names start with gtm., are left out. An event you saved before that the latest check didn't see stays in the list, marked Not seen in the latest check.
Choose and rename events
- Tick the events you want in My Journey Analytics. Tick all and Untick all change every row at once.
- To give an event a clearer name, type it under Name in My Journey Analytics. Leave it empty to keep the dataLayer name. You can only rename an event you have ticked.
- Select Save.
Rows you have changed show Unsaved until you save. Select Discard to undo your changes.
You can forward up to 200 events.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| dataLayer event | The event name your site pushes. |
| Name in My Journey Analytics | The name it is recorded under. Empty keeps the dataLayer name. |
| Times pushed | How often the latest check saw it. |
| Arrived | Yes when it arrived in this project in the last 7 days, No when it didn't. A dash means we can't tell. |
What Hive Setup does with it
After you save, Hive Setup uses the list the next time it runs. It writes a trigger, My Journey Analytics - Forwarded events, that fires for the events you ticked, and a tag, My Journey Analytics - Event forwarder, that sends them to My Journey Analytics with the other keys of each push as properties, under the names you chose. See what Hive Setup writes.
If you have never saved a choice for the site, Hive Setup forwards the events the latest check saw, up to 50, leaving out the tag manager's own gtm. and gtag. events. The review step then says the list came from the check, and that you can change it here.
When Hive Setup also adds the Google Analytics 4 destination, the events you forward go to Google Analytics 4 too, if their names are ones Google Analytics accepts: up to 40 letters, numbers and underscores, starting with a letter.
To forward events by hand instead, see Forward data layer events.
