Hive
Hive checks what your website really sends, and writes the right tags into your Google Tag Manager container to fix what it finds.
Hive has two parts:
- Hive Check loads your website like a visitor and reports what it really sends: tracking, consent, tags and your dataLayer, page by page.
- Hive Setup fixes what Hive Check found by writing the right tags into your Google Tag Manager container. You review every change before anything is written.
Hive lives under Tools → Hive in the app.
What each plan includes
| Feature | Essentials | Growth | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hive Check | Up to 3 monitored sites per project | Up to 10 monitored sites per project | Up to 25 monitored sites per project |
| Hive Setup | Not included | Included | Included |
| Server-side tagging (your own server container) | Not included | Included | Included |
| GA4 forwarding | Not included | Included | Included |
| Hosted server-side Tag Manager | Not available | Add-on, from US$250 a month per container | Add-on, from US$250 a month per container |
These are the standard plans. Your organization's plan is shown under Settings → Organization → Billing; see Plan and billing. One-off checks don't count towards the monitored sites limit.
When a part of Hive isn't in your plan, the page shows Not included in your plan in its place. See What the plan messages mean.
How the parts fit together
- Run Hive Check on your website and read the report.
- Optionally, add journeys so the check also walks through key paths, such as pricing to sign-up, and choose which dataLayer events to forward.
- Connect Google Tag Manager in Settings.
- Use Hive Setup to write the fixes into your container, as a draft or published.
- Schedule a weekly check and set up alerts, so you hear when something breaks.
To send your tags through a server on your own subdomain, see Server-side tagging.
The checks
Every finding has a stable rule code, such as CON_TRACKING_BEFORE_CONSENT. The checks reference lists every rule with its severity and what it means.
Doing it by hand
Hive Setup writes the same tags our guides describe. Without Hive Setup, follow Install with Google Tag Manager and Server-side Google Tag Manager.
