Plans and billing

Change your plan in Billing, read the preview before you confirm, and what happens to your data, websites and add-ons when you move to a smaller plan.

You change your plan in the app, under Settings → Organization → Billing. Every change is previewed first, and nothing changes until you confirm it.

Only organization admins and owners can change the plan.

Your plan

Change your plan in Billing shows your current plan, its products and its limits, then every other plan you can move to. Each one is marked Upgrade, Switch or Downgrade. Plans of both product lines are listed, so an analytics account can add tag governance, and the other way round.

For what each plan includes and costs, see pricing.

Change your plan

  1. Open Settings → Organization → Billing.
  2. Choose a plan, and Monthly or Annual where the plan offers both.
  3. Read the preview. It shows: - You get and You lose: the products and features that change; - Your data: what happens to the data of products you lose, and any shorter retention, with the date deletion starts; - lower limits, and anything over them, such as monitored websites; - when the change takes effect, and the price.
  4. Confirm. A change that loses products or data asks you to Type your organization name to confirm.

The button you confirm with says what will happen:

ButtonWhat happens
Confirm changeThe change applies now.
Continue to paymentThe new plan needs a payment first. It applies once the payment goes through.
Schedule changeA downgrade from a paid plan. It applies at the end of your billing period.
Send requestThe change needs our approval. We review it and email you. You see We have your request.

Upgrades and switches apply straight away. On a card subscription, the price difference is prorated.

Downgrades

A downgrade from a paid plan waits for the end of the period you have already paid for. Until then, Billing shows the change as scheduled, with its date, and Cancel this change to keep your plan. A downgrade to a free plan applies straight away.

Your provider may also set downgrades to be a request we approve, rather than a change you make yourself.

What happens to your data

Nothing is deleted the moment you change plans.

  • Products you lose. Their data is kept, and their pages show as locked, with an upgrade option. New data for them stops being collected. Moving back to a plan that includes them unlocks the data you had.
  • Shorter data retention. Your current retention is kept for a grace period. The preview shows the date deletion of older data starts, and we email the organization's owners before that date as a warning.
  • More websites than the new plan allows. The extra monitored websites in Hive are paused: their scheduled checks stop, newest first, unless you choose which to keep in the preview. Nothing about them is deleted, and you can run them again after an upgrade.
  • Hosted server-side containers over the new number keep running until the end of the billing period. We then stop the extra ones.

Remove an add-on

Removing an active add-on follows the same rules as a downgrade.

  1. In Add-ons, select Remove add-on next to it.
  2. Read the preview of what you lose, then confirm. When the add-on is billed by card, you can choose Remove at the end of the period.

A removal at the end of the period shows Ends with its date, and Keep add-on to undo it. When removals need our approval, the add-on shows Removal requested, with Withdraw request.

For adding an add-on, see Payments and add-ons.

Who is told

Every plan change and add-on removal is recorded, and the organization's owners get an email about it.
